Kaleidoscope of Steps

An exhibition about the staircase, designed like a kaleidoscope. We meet stairs every day and barely notice them, even though they are one of the key structures in architecture.

A staircase is a complex structure with a fascinating history and loads of varieties. Architecture is a huge spatial composition, a volume that surrounds us every day.

Take a spiral staircase. Look at it from below or from above, and the pattern hypnotises you and starts to feel like an illusion.

Inside a kaleidoscope, three angled mirrors refract the light coming in through the bottom circle. Every time you look, there is a new pattern, and it looks like a spiral staircase.
